Walter N. Werner of Doylestown, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. He was 88.
Walt served in the US Navy from 1947 to 1967 as a Parachute Rigger later as Chief Petty Officer, Pressure Suit Locker, Squadron VF-102 and finally at COMNAVAIRLANT in Norfolk, VA, as a GS-11 Safety and Survival Expert, especially in F4-B Phantom and F-14 Tomcat fighter aircraft. He was proud to have served on the CV-6 and CVN-66 USS Enterprise during his career. As a civilian he was employed at Philadelphia Naval Yard and then at Naval Air Development Center in Warminster PA.
Having many interests, he was an avid model train collector and hobbyist. He also loved woodworking and sewing. He crafted soft luggage and wallets, which he gifted to family, friends, and acquaintances.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Mary A. Werner (nee Regan); devoted father of Walter (Suzanne), Peter ( Leila), Timothy (Carol), Paul (Cecelia), Karl (Kristy), Charlotte Hayn (John), Florence Worrall (Rob), Joseph McFarland (Maryellen), Thomas McFarland (Linda), Mary Schafer (Richard), Robert McFarland, Michael McFarland (Mary), William McFarland, and Sheila McFarland; also survived by 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Wayne.
A viewing will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Thursday, May 4th from 9:30-11:00 am, with a service to begin at 11:00 am.
A committal service with military honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Animal Welfare Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Habitat for Humanity.
