Obituary for George J. Valdez

On January 3, 2023, George Valdez, 70 years of age, returned to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born in Philadelphia and was the second son blessed to William Valdez and Philomena (Pizzo). George was musically gifted and played saxophone, guitar, flute, and clarinet. He attended Neshaminy High School and excelled in gymnastics. As one of the best ‘all around’ gymnasts on the team, George was appointed Team Captain during his high school years and went on to participate in the State Championships. He was sought after by many colleges due to his gymnastic abilities. He was from the ‘disco’ era and won many dance contests in his platform shoes as well as winning the heart of his future bride, Teresa Mruk.

George worked for the Langhorne Shop N Bag as a Meatcutter for many years, but the sport of Gymnastics continued to be his passion. He decided to leave his trade as a Meatcutter and opened a gymnastics center, Bensalem School of Gymnastics, with his brother Tony, who was also a gymnast. George opened a second gymnastics center in Montgomeryville called American Gymnastics & Sports, where he coached both the boys’ and girls’ teams, and taught students until his retirement.

After being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia last year, George moved in with his younger son, Christopher, who devotedly cared for him until his passing. Unfortunately, George recently became one of the many victims of Covid and his health rapidly deteriorated.

George is survived by his loving sons, Michael Valdez and Christopher Valdez; his sister Alice Netzer (Jim); his brothers William Valdez and Anthony Valdez; and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to George’s family at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Interment will follow in Doylestown Cemetery,
