Marjorie Edna Newell, 92, of Doylestown, passed away on December 23rd, 2022 after a valiant battle against Dementia.
Marjorie was born on June 9th, 1930 to Edward Hugo Redmond and Lillian McKissick-Redmond in Philadelphia, Pa. After graduating from Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Marjorie became a typist for various local offices and then married Levy Newell (deceased) and raised 4 children. Marjorie and Levy hosted holiday dinners, family barbeques and small celebrations. They also enjoyed traveling to North Carolina and Canada to visit relatives.
Marjorie and Levy Newell had 4 children, Janice, Jennifer, Levy III, and Brandon.
Marjorie took on various jobs between raising children including working as a Teacher’s Aide at Garfield Elementary School in Willingboro, NJ. Marjorie was an avid roller skater as a child, and as an adult, enjoyed playing the piano, dancing (including tap dancing), cooking and gardening. She was a natural for drumming and loved the sound of Native drums. Marjorie would also take her two older girls to Midnight Mass and make sure they got to choir practice. So many times she heard the Ave Maria being sung which she could also play by ear on the piano. Many people in Doylestown would see Marjorie walking along East Road with groceries; especially on days when roads were closed due to snow/ice. She would also walk up to Lenape Junior High School to watch her youngest son run track. Her oldest son would walk with her to Memorial High School to listen to live Folk Music. She was part of the league of women voters in Bucks County. She was a member of Southeastern Cherokee Confederacy of PA and Mount Carmel Church in Doylestown, PA.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Levy Newell, who passed in 2007. Marjorie is survived by her 4 children (Janice Powers, Jennifer Klepsch, Levy Newell III, and Brandon Newell), 5 grandchildren (Shawn Newell, Melissa Klepsch, Veronica Newell, David Buschman, Dane Buschman), and 3 great grandchildren ( Kayla Klepsch, Nadia Jones and James Jones). She is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews and by her sister Gloria Wade Taylor.
The family will receive their friends at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 am, with a service to begin at 11:00 am.
