Rita T. Berretta, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt passed away on October 28, 2022 at the age of 93.
Pre-deceased by her husband, Angelo P. Berretta, to whom she had been married to for over fifty years, she is also pre-deceased by her brothers, Joseph (baby), Ralph, Romeo, Henry, Joseph, as well as her sisters, Marie, Connie, Florence and Helen. She is survived by her three children, Angelo (Joan), Michael (Joann), Patricia (Richard), grandchildren, Robert (Jessica), Michael, Nicholas, Zach, Nick, Denise (Daniel), Cathy (Alan), William (Tracy), James (Yvonne), great grandchildren Arianna, Benjamin, Samuel and her sister, Lucy.
She and her husband, Angelo were successful entrepreneurs, having started their Berretta’s Water Ice business in North Philadelphia, and later moving to Northeast Philadelphia, serving their delicious home made water ice for over thirty years to their customers. She met many people during those years and forged long lasting friendships. She truly enjoyed having her family around her in Northeast Philadelphia and Wildwood, especially spending time with her grandchildren, watching them grow up successfully, but always worrying about every little aspect of their lives. Her one particular joy with the family was going out for pizza, critiquing the various pies, while telling stories about her life and the latest gossip on Facebook. She loved to cook for her family despite her busy schedule, in particular homemade gnocchi for Sunday dinner. One of her favorite pastimes was talking about growing up in the Hunting Park neighborhood of Philadelphia, remembering the many neighbors, shops, nightclubs and colorful characters in the tight knit Italian community.
The family will receive their friends at Our Lady of Calvary Catholic Church, 11024 Knights Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154 on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 9:00-11:00 a.m., with a mass to begin at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow in Resurrecton Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.
