Obituary for Dolores B. Howland

Dolores B. Howland, 1934-2022

It was once written: “There is a charm and delight in her society which time does not in the least wear off, and for goodness of heart, if she ever had an equal, she certainly never had a superior”.

Dolores (Dee) Howland of Pipersville died at Christ’s Home on Easter, April 17, 2022. She was born in Philadelphia on April, 27, 1934, the daughter of Earl T. McAllister and Margaret Alice Jacumin who had moved to Philadelphia from western North Carolina. Dee was an honor student at Frankford High School winning two science awards at graduation and a scholarship to Temple University. She played the saxophone and clarinet & was a member of the All Philadelphia High School Orchestra. Dee married Thomas S. Howland Jr. on August 23,1952. Love, devotion and thoroughly enjoying each other’s company were the hallmarks of their marriage.

Dee enjoyed and had a knack for constructing and repairing everything ranging from building a small barn for her daughter’s Morgan horse to refinishing furniture and maintaining the interior and exterior of her home. For a period of time she also was the office manager for two surgical practices. Dee and Tom enjoyed traveling from Hawaii through North America to Europe. Tom’s genealogical interests led to many fascinating people and places in the U.S. and Europe. Dee is a descendant of William Spencer, one of the very few early settlers of the Jamestown Colony in Virginia who survived and have descendants.

Dolores was predeceased by her daughter Linda, her sister Alice Gille and husband Ralph and, sister-in-law, the Reverend Margaret E Howland. She is survived by husband Tom, son Tom Howland III and his wife Margaret of Richboro, PA; grandchildren Sandra Howland and her partner James Beyer of Hampton, NJ; Dr. Amanda Howland and her husband, Dino Teskeredzic of Dartmouth, MA; Tom Howland IV of Long Island City, NY; Matthew Howland of Philadelphia and Dr. Aubrey Howland of Richboro--and two great granddaughters, Claire and Gemma. Also in-laws William Howland and Judy of Huntingdon Valley, PA; Jane Grim and John, Esq. of Perkasie, PA; John Howland, Esq. and Kathi of Cheltenham, PA-- and 14 nieces & nephews.

A celebration of Dolores' life will be held at 10am, Saturday, April 30, at the Tinicum United Church of Christ, 310 E Dark Hollow Rd, Pipersville, PA 18947. A visitation will be held prior to the service between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. All are welcome.
