Obituary for Edward Charles D'Arcy
Edward Charles D’Arcy of Doylestown, PA passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, in Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA. He was 75.
Born in Waltham, MA in 1946 to the late Michael J. and Cathleen (McCarthy) D’Arcy, Ed resided in Hopewell Township, NJ before moving to Doylestown, PA in 1993.
Ed had a lengthy career with the US District Court for the District of New Jersey Probation Office. At retirement, he was the Supervising US Probation Officer of the Addictions and Mental Health Unit. In addition, Ed served on a national training team within his Department, conducting special Mental Health training sessions throughout the country. Ed was also an Educator, serving as adjunct Professor in Criminal Justice at Mercer County (NJ) College for twenty years. After his Federal employment, Ed worked three years for the NJ Department of Human Services in the Administration of the Drug Courts.
Ed graduated from Bayley-Ellard High School in Madison, NJ; Trenton State College, now The College of New Jersey (BA); and Rutgers University (MSW). He was a US Air Force Veteran and a member of the American Legion.
He was the beloved husband of Judith (Dempsey) D’Arcy; devoted father of Trisha D’Arcy and husband Steve Irwin, stepfather of Steve Tonero, Matt Tonero and wife Athena Dacanay; loving Pop-Pop of Sara, Paige and Ryan; dear brother of Michael D’Arcy and wife Kathleen; proud uncle and godfather to Michael D’Arcy. He is also survived by his Uncle John J. Enright, who along with his late Aunt Helen McCarthy Enright, were like parents to him. Ed was the “cousin-brother” to Kathleen (John) Rooney, Mary Anne (Brian) Walsh, John (Robin) Enright, Barry (Patty) Enright, Maggie Enright, and Nora (Steve) Brennan. He was the brother-in-law to Tom (Sharon) Dempsey and Clissy (Bill) Hasselman; plus five nieces and nephews. His first wife, Helga, also survives him.
Ed and Judy both enjoyed traveling to several European countries but especially loved multiple trips to Ireland, Germany and Italy. With friends, they also went on cruises to Bermuda, the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas. They also had a vacation home in Sea Isle City, NJ where they spent many good times with friends. Ed loved “being down the shore” and the warmth of the sun, whether there or in FL. For fun, Ed had a well-placed love as a long-time season ticket holder for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights football team. RU: RAH RAH !!
The family will receive their friends at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 9:00-10:00 am with a Funeral Mass to begin at 10:00 am.
Interment with military honors will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 at 1:00 pm.
