Obituary for Elizabeth "Beth" Agnes Larlick
Elizabeth (Beth) Agnes Larlick passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, 2021. She was 77 years old and the devoted wife of 53 years to Edward J. Larlick.
Beth was born in Millinocket, Maine to the late Kenneth and Theresa Osborne. She was a resident of Doylestown, PA for 44 years and summered closer to her siblings in South Portland, ME for the last 21 years.
She was the proud, devoted, and caring mother of Fr. Matthew R., David A. (Michele), and Catherine Abrams (Mike) and adoring grandmother to Jonathan, Leah, Amelia, and Kieran. She was the oldest of 11 children: Ross Osborne (Linda), Thomas Osborne (Karlene), Susan Sickler, Nancy McCoy (Pat McCoy, now deceased), Dorothy Chasse (Ronnie), Sandy Deschaine (Ervin), Kenneth Osborne, II (Sally), Patrick Osborne, Margaret Popp (Mike), and Beverly Osborne as well as 27 nieces, nephews, step-nieces and step-nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Kenneth and Theresa Osborne and her cherished siblings: Beverly Osborne, Dorothy Chasse, and Ross Osborne.
She was a loving and nurturing person who was regarded as a second parent to some of her youngest siblings as well as her children’s friends. She loved good books, knitting, shopping for good deals at garage sales and auctions, picking blueberries, baking pies, sailing in the Casco Bay, and a good prank or story. She maintained close relationships with relatives and friends and kept track of every detail of their lives. Beth and Ed also shared a large group of friends who brought joy and support to them, especially in the last years of her life.
Beth attended Farmington State Teacher’s College, which was later renamed University of Maine at Farmington. She loved teaching the second grade in Brunswick, ME where she met her future husband. His military (Navy) career brought her to Willingboro, NJ, Virginia Beach, VA, and finally, Doylestown, PA to be close to his parents, his sister Linda Larlick and her husband, Carl Wagner. During her kid’s elementary school years, she was a homemaker and taught CCD at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She later became a library aide at New Hope Solebury High School.
She highly valued service to her community. The availability and quality of recreation programs in her hometown, East Millinocket, ME, motivated her to volunteer at events in Doylestown. She was eventually appointed by the Board of Supervisors to the Doylestown Township Park and Recreation Board, which she served from January 1986 through December 1995. Over the years, she created and led numerous recreation activities including the annual Doylestown Township Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting, Fun in the Sun Children’s Camp, Ice Skating at Sauerman Park, Oktoberfest, and the Tennis Instruction Program. In addition, she contributed to the establishment of numerous hike and bike paths, Sauerman Park, Bridge Point Park, Turk Park, and Central Park, which has become a regional attraction. She is remembered fondly by current Parks and Recreation Staff who credit her vision and enthusiasm for accessible programs and public spaces as being influential to their own passion for their work and for helping to make the park system what it is today and for what it may become in the future.
In 2001, she began spending summers at Willard Beach in South Portland, ME. Out of necessity, she began splitting her activities between locales. In the summer, she enjoyed volunteering at Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse in South Portland, ME and then taught literacy skills to adults upon her return to Doylestown for the winter. She was also active in the Women’s Club of Mount Carmel and her book club.
She was immensely proud of her grandchildren and she celebrated in their achievements. Her husband and family are enormously grateful to those who cared for her, especially her sister, Susan Sickler, who ministered to her health during her last months and final hours.
She was loved by many and we will never forget her.
