“thoughts from the Sungard AS team” – the entire Sungard Availability Services family extends our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Nickum Family. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family and we are truly sorry for your loss. May the care and love of those around you provide comfort and peace to get you through the days ahead. We will always remember Bob and for sure miss that smile and laugh on our calls. Rest in Peace Bob.
These are just a few of the messages of the people that knew and worked with Bob and whose lives he touched:
I had the great pleasure of knowing and working with Bob for over 25 years, first at AT&T then at Sungard Availability Services. Over those years, I knew Bob to be an upbeat and thoughtful colleague who knew his stuff, was a creative problem solver and never hesitated to offer a helping hand. He will be greatly missed, both as a friend and colleague. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing. With deepest sympathies - Susan Hirsch
Bob always was a ray of sunshine even in your darkness days. If you needed a pick me up or someone who was going to keep you calm Bob was your guy. Bob never said he couldn’t get the job done. He just did it...Nicest man I have ever known... will truly miss him – Loran Eberle-Brodniak
Generous – Considerate – Easy-going – Optimistic – Sociable – Buddy “Bob, A True Gentleman and Everyone’s Best Friend” – Andy Gardner
SWEET and VIRTUOUS - He will be forever in mind as an example of best-in-class people. Bob was a gentleman, jovial and a man full of positive energy who always had a smile no matter how tough the problem or situation. He also focused on the solution, not a problem. He was a man full of wisdom and goodwill to everyone that he interacted as a matter of rule. His humanity and positiveness were stellar, and Bob will always be cherished and remembered by all of us. Great family and professional man that we all should strive to emulate, specifically his humanity. - Ivan Gutierrez
Bob touched me and all with whom he worked, as a friend, a kind soul, a gentle presence who encompassed me with joy and peace. – Paula Bartlett
Always positive and optimistic, always - Sharon Kates
Great guy – I enjoyed working with Bob and just talking with him and my condolences go out to his family and those close to him -Todd Schlett
“Bob was full of positive energy and had a smile that was so infectious. He was a happy man. May his soul rest in peace.” – Deepanjan Biswas
“warmhearted” - James Griffin
I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was a great guy. When I first met him over the phone, I was thinking he was a young 35/40 years old young guy full of life and energy. Then I met him in Carlstadt, NJ and although he was older than what I have though we immediately connected. We both hugged in appreciation we have finally met in person and worked together to get things done. My deepest condolences to you and his family. He will be forever in mind as an example of best-in-class people. SWEET and VIRTUOUS - Pedro Vilanova
Bob was a role model to me. He was never ruffled by any amount of challenge. He always had a positive attitude and dove in with “where are we and what do we need to do to achieve our goal?”. I never met Bob in person, but every time I heard his voice, it made me happy. He was a ray of sunshine! It was a true pleasure working with him. I am forever changed for knowing him and I will always strive to follow his example of gratitude for every blessing. He is irreplaceable and will be truly missed but I will always smile when I see or hear his name or think of him. I know heaven received him with open arms! – Cynthia Jennings
My description of Bob- “mild-mannered, always smiling even in worst situations and helpful. May his soul Rest in Peace. Will miss him”. - Milind Kamat
Dependable - as you know, for this old jarhead…that is very high praise! Semper Fi – Chris Tabor
Chance made us colleagues, but the fun and laughter made us friends. I was lucky to work with Bob and will never forget the warmth, his persistent positive attitude, and his good-natured willingness to help. I will miss him dearly and wanted to extend my sympathies to the family. – Ann Wiley
Bob Nickum my friend and confidant. Bob and I worked together for many years and talked to each other just about every day. We worked many long and stressful hours and never once in those 25 + years, not once, did Bob ever lose faith that we would succeed in whatever our mission. He was the eternal optimist and my go to person on the team. We all looked to Bob to get us back on task whenever we lost focus and direction. He was always up for a challenge and never quit. Even as Bob faced the battle for his life he never once felt sorry for himself. He never lost faith that he would beat this terrible disease. Whenever we talked, he always asked about others and how they were, and he would joke and laugh (you know the laugh) just like old times. He never gave up and never complained but most importantly Bob never quit. He fought right up to the end. One thing for sure…Bob loved his life with his wife and family more than anything in this world. He will be missed by all. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again – John M. Zdyrski
