Obituary for Ruth Irene Henning

Ruth I. (Baumann) Henning passed away peacefully on February 3, 2021 at Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA. She was 93.

Born in Baltimore, MD on December 29, 1927 to the late Robert and Naomi (Calvert) Baumann, Ruth was one of seven children, with five brothers and one sister. She resided in Aurora, IL for 81 years.

She married Ferdinand J. Henning in 1948, and they remained dedicated to each other until his passing in 2000.

Ruth enjoyed long and loving friendships with her sister, Naomi “Sis”, members of her card club, Louise, Lucille, and Helen, and had two special long-time friends who were “close to her heart,” Margie (hairdresser) and Cindy (co-worker). Wherever she went, she left smiles, giggles, and lots of laughs, even after just meeting someone. Ruth loved people, and they loved her back. She was always on the go, and took many long walks. She also enjoyed gardening, and doing activities or spending time with her friends and family.

Ruth was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend; the best that one could possibly ask for. She was adored and loved by her family so very much. She was fun, funny, kind, warm hearted, and extremely generous, along with having an inner strength that was just amazing.

In 2009 Ruth moved to Ellicott City, MD, to live with her eldest daughter, Lana S. (Henning) LaHam. They were blessed with ten loving years of mother/daughter companionship. She then moved to Penns Park, PA in 2019 to live with her youngest daughter, Jeneane (Henning) Whelan and son in law, Lary Whelan. Though brief, it was still a blessing to have spent the time together prior to her admission to Greenleaf Nursing Center in Doylestown, PA in 2020, where she was given exceptional care. She lived with her roommate, Pat (aka B-Bop) and quickly became friends. They shared stories, laughs, and lots of time together.

Ruth now lives with our loving father, the Almighty God. She was a Christian, lover of life, and was always most appreciative of all God’s blessings.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Lana S. LaHam of Ellicott City, MD, Jeneane M. Whelan (Lary) of Penns Park, PA; cherished grandsons Jason P. LaHam (Mary) of Verona, WI, Ryan M. LaHam (Maggie Cushner) of Baltimore, MD; devoted great grandson Tyler J. LaHam of Verona, WI.

Ruth will be laid to rest with her late husband at Riverhills Memorial Park in Batavia, IL.

Memorial donations to any organization closest to your heart would be appreciated.

Due to the pandemic, services will be held at a later date.
