I met Seth when I was very young, but I remember a period of Cathy’s life before Seth entered into it. I adored my Aunt in a way that would make it difficult for any man she dated to impress me much.

Yet Seth was instantly likeable. He had a warm, relaxed and genuine smile and was so sweet to me and my sisters. And yes, he really did stand outside for the majority of that first evening I can remember meeting him in the freezing cold, snow and slush just so that our “gingerbread” house would set. (That particular year it was made of pretzel sticks assembled with melted chocolate that wouldn’t cool in the heat of Cathy’s small apartment.)

Seth had amusing quirks and interests that made him unforgettable to a child. He had a gargantuan pet rabbit, drove a VW Rabbit, and when he drank powdered iced tea, he didn’t stir it. He was probably one of the first people I met who was a conservationist; he hated waste. Before “reduce, reuse and recycle” was a mantra, Seth was practicing it. He loved the natural environment and shared that with other people. I remember him leading the occasional hike with my family and he was truly in his element. He also really listened and paid attention to people. If you mentioned something in a conversation, even tangentially, he’d look it up later on and share what he had found.

It was so ingrained in Seth to help people, that he seemed to make life easier for other people reflexively. He was always busy. In the short time I spent with him and Cathy when Abe and Simon were born, I got to experience Seth’s everyday helpfulness. I would go to empty a wastebasket only to find that it had already been quietly done. I would attempt to do dishes and be shooed away.

Seth was also pretty darn strong! When he was happy, you might find yourself picked up and twirled around. I don’t mean only the kids -- the last time he twirled me around in a happy greeting was in Chincoteague a few years ago.

Set had such a big heart and loved his family so much. He was such a lovely man.

My condolences to Cathy, Abe, Simon, Claire and Cathy.

May you find comfort in God’s promise at Revelation 21:3,4. “God himself will be with them.
And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning
nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

I just wanted to let you all know that we are thinking of you and sending warm thoughts your way. We were so sorry to hear of Seth's passing. He was a kind and funny man and you both were so nice in welcoming all four of us to the neighborhood a few years ago.

Seth and I spent our Lower Moreland years close to each other in home room amd lockers because of our names being close in the lists, and being in many classes together. Seth was a unique, smart, funny, quiet guy who added to the fabric of my school years. My heart goes out to his family. Cathy, I was so delighted to see Seth and you in October, and hope that you and your children find comfort in each other.
