Obituary for Lila S. McKean

Lila McKean (née Schroepfer) died peacefully on Feb. 21, 2020, at the age of 84.

Born Feb. 26, 1935, she grew up in the Mayfair neighborhood of Philadelphia. Lila enjoyed spending time with her family, including her twin sister, Lola, and sang in the choir at Emmanuel Resurrection Episcopal Church in Holmesburg. Lila was a Girl Scout and a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Her favorite activities included roller skating at the Concord Roller Rink and ice skating on local ponds.

Lila and Jack, her husband of 63 years, and their son, John Herman, made their home in Holland, PA. The family attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Newtown, PA. She and Jack enjoyed going antiquing together as part of a club and, as a family, they liked to travel.

Lila worked at Sun Oil Company (now Sunoco) after graduating high school. Later, she became the secretary to the president of Frankford Trust Company in Horsham, Pa.

Several years ago, Lila and Jack moved to Ann’s Choice retirement community in Warminster, PA., where she made their new apartment feel like home and often participated in social events.

Lila is survived by her son John and daughter-in-law Lujuana, as well as sister Lola Wood (Chip); nephew Thomas Wood (Dawn); nieces Linda Bacha (Bill), Jeanne Scardilli (Pete), and Sally Schaller (John); and more than a dozen great-grandnieces and -nephews and one great-great-grandniece.

Cremation was private. Details about a joint service for Lila and Jack will be announced.
