Obituary for Dr. Sanjiv Arvind Patel
Sanjiv was the keystone and foundation of everyone. It could be anybody from friends, family members, colleagues and neighbors. Sanjiv lived a simple life and didn’t want too many celebrations but cared for the wellbeing of others. He conveyed the message that people do not have to have a fancy house, a fancy car and fancy life to be happy. His interest in others’ lives was expressed with sincerity and marked by humor with an often grin and unable to rest until everyone else is content and happy.
Sanjiv was the one who made it a family tradition to always have barbecues. As a family, he got everyone together to have them each time at the three houses, his brother’s and his sister’s place each time. In each barbecue, he always asked everyone if they were having fun. He always loved to be around others. Though, Nalin was the life of his parents, Sanjiv loved babies and wanted to hold Nalin first. He would stand outside the baby nursery for multiple hours waiting to hold Nalin. He wanted to be the first. He used to bother the doctors and nurses every five minutes.
Sanjiv A. Patel was a psychologist who passed away unexpectedly on May 30th, 2019 at the age of 55 at home.
Sanjiv was born on June 15th, 1963 in Cincinnati, Ohio to mother Usha Kiran Patel and father Arvind Jashbhai Patel, who predeceased him. Sanjiv grew up in a loving family with a sister and a younger brother in Bergenfield, New Jersey.
He graduated with a double master’s and a PhD degree from; Indiana University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and The New School of Psychology in Child Psychology. He began his practice as a clinical psychologist and devoted his career in working with young children and troubled youth. Sanjiv was a driven professional with an unparalleled work ethic and in his personal life.
Sanjiv married Jayashree Singh on December 1st, 1996 in New Delhi, India. Then returned to the United States and first resided in Somerset, New Jersey, Sanjiv’s life transformed and the embodiment of his very being with the birth of his beautiful daughter Kahini on July 21st, 2003. Eventually, they settled down in Doylestown Pennsylvania.
Sanjiv was loved and respected by everyone, his colleagues, his friends, his neighbors, family and those he did not have a direct relationship with yet was always talked about fondly as a vibrant, passionate person full of life. He was a very cheerful and humorous individual.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the Varcoe -Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, 18901.
