Obituary for Deanna Dumis Wilson

Deanna Lee Wilson (nee Dumis) of Chalfont, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2019. She was 76.

Deanna was born on Nov. 30, 1942, in Texarkana, AR. She was the fourth of five children born to the late Claude and Evelyn Dumis. Deanna graduated from Texarkana, TX High School in 1961 and received a BA in Home Economics from Texas Tech University in 1965.

Deanna began her teaching career in 1965 in Rule, TX where she also met her future husband of 52 years, Willie Joe Wilson. After a whirlwind courtship, the couple was married on July 9, 1966. During their years together, Deanna supported Willie through an MS and a PhD as well as moves from Texas to Arkansas and finally to Pennsylvania.

Deanna is survived by her husband, Willie Wilson, and their three children: Josh Wilson, of Hatboro; Mark Wilson, of Lansdale; and Sarah Griffiths, of Chalfont. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Skylese, Leanna, Kate, and Noah; as well as three siblings: Charles Dumis, Claude Dumis II, and Sarah Westfall. Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Evelyn Dumis, and her sister, Loretta Hall.

Deanna loved caring for and serving people. In addition to her early career in the field of education, Deanna spent the past 19 years as a beloved employee of McDonald’s in Chalfont, handing out smiles and kind words with cups of coffee during the early morning hours. She spent many years volunteering both at her church and at Camp Manatawny, working quietly behind the scenes wherever she was needed. She had a particular passion and talent for ministering to the youngest members of the church in her decades teaching the Cradle Roll class. Her broccoli salad, yeast rolls, and apple pie are the stuff of legend, as is her infectious joy of reading. Both her love of cooking, and her love of literature have been passed down to her children and grandchildren. Deanna was deeply devoted to her family and leaves behind beautiful memories full of laughter and joy.

A celebration of Deanna’s life will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the North Penn Church of Christ, 300 North Wales Road, North Wales, PA 19454.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be sent to Delaware Valley Christian Camp, 33 Camp Road, Douglassville, PA 19518 https://www.manatawny.org or Divine Water, 300 North Wales Road, North Wales, PA 19454.
