Obituary for Lewis A. "Sam" Knight

Lewis A. Knight passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 10, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. He was 85.

Lew, also known as Sam, was born at home in Upper Makefield, Bucks County on April 24, 1933 to Harry and Catherine Knight. He was one of thirteen children growing up on farms in New Hope and Lahaska before moving to a farm in Rehrersburg, PA as a teen.

Lew proudly served in the US Army from 1954-1956, stationed in Germany.

He is survived by his children Donna Matthias (Al), and son Lewis Ray Knight (Sue). He was a devoted and loving grandfather to Lewis Szagola (Sara), Faith and Raymond Knight, and proud Great Pop to Eli Szagola. He is also survived by a brother Frank Knight, and sister May Sands. He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline (Renner), and devoted companion Elinor Edwards, and by siblings, Della, Harry, Miraam, Kathleen, Anna, Watson, Josephine, Eva, John, and Raymond.

Lew worked for the Philadelphia Electric Co. for 32 years as a crane operator. He enjoyed working as an auctioneer at North Penn auction gallery in Lansdale. After retirement he could be found at yard sales, flea markets and the Quakertown Farmers Market, or spendingtime working at The Truck Patch farm in Warrington, or most likely, helping anyone who needed it.

Lews’ infectious sense of humor, love of life and its simple pleasures will be missed by all that had the opportunity to meet and know him.

A service will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Friday, June 15th at 11:00 am. The family will receive their friends from 10:00-11:00 am at the funeral home prior to service.

Private cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please spend time with those you love, share a special memory, and help out a friend in need.
