Obituary for Frank A. Mooney

Frank A. Mooney 93 (August 15, 2018) Born December 14, 1924. From Fox Chase section of Philadelphia, Lawn Crest and Buckingham, PA. Predeceased by his father, Frank A., Senior, his mother Martha (Dean) Mooney and sister, Virginia Markle. Survived by his wife Lois M. (Pfaff) of 69 years and three children: Gary (Gail), Robert (Donna) and Diane (Gene); two grandchildren – Rebecca Gabr (Michael) and Ryan (Mary) and two great grandchildren – Abigail and Michael.

Frank graduated from Central High School in 1942 (178th Class), then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1942 and trained as a flight engineer/gunner, part of an air crew with Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB-208. He witnessed the surrender on the U.S.S. Missouri. Frank and his crew were awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy in October 1945, Frank began working on the Philadelphia waterfront in the Stevedore Division of Lavino Shipping Company. He retired from Lavino 1982 as a Vice President and became a consultant for Tri-State Bulk Handling, Inc. in Camden, NJ. Frank and Lois enjoyed many years of retirement wintering in North Port, FL with their friends.

Frank was a member of American Legion Post 366 for 72 years and a member of Torresdale Frankford Country Club for 38 years.

Funeral services will be held at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 on Thursday, August 23rd at 11:30 AM.
