Obituary for Barbara M. Brown

Barbara M. Brown of Doylestown PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Langhorne PA. She was 79.

Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late William and Florence (Simon) Eberz, Barbara resided in Doylestown, PA since 1974 and recently moved to Newtown, PA.

Barbara attended Little Flower High School before moving to Warminster PA during her junior year and graduating from William Tennent High School in 1957. She attended Lock Haven University, married, and traveled the country with her three young children on military bases before settling in Doylestown. She spent several years as a florist surrounded by her first passion, flowers. After staying home with her children, she worked as an administrative assistant at the Bucks County Courthouse, then later with McNeil Pharmaceuticals of Fort Washington PA.

Having been raised in a large Irish Catholic family, her church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OLMC) became an integral part of her life. She joined the State Street Players of OLMC as an actor and quickly realized her talent for writing and directing theater. As one of the group’s first writers, she wrote and produced original skits that entertained the community for years, including, “The 1,000-year-old Mother” and “Marge and Ralph.” During this time the State Street Players grew from a production of folding tables in the school cafeteria, to fill the auditorium to capacity, with a full band and sold out audiences for three weeks every March. Her friendships made in the State Street Players were life-long.

Once she left the stage, she still actively participated in OLMC as both a lector and member of the Ladies of Mount Carmel. An avid reader and writer, she could often be found at the kitchen table with one leg tucked under her, book in hand, with legal yellow pad, and felt tip pen next to her. Her creative talents included gardening, decorating and a love of fine art. She was also active in the local Republican Party working as a committeewoman, and election day poll worker.

Beloved mother of Christopher, Timothy and Jennifer; dear sister of William, Robert, Paul, and Matthew Eberz, and Alice (Maleninsky); dear sister-in-law of Ruth Eberz; loving grandmother of Anysia (Valko), Christopher M. Brown, Marissa (Salta) and Hannah, Abigail, and Owen Thomas; cherished great-grandmother of Elise Tin; Great Aunt to 21 nieces and nephews.
