Obituary for Vincent J. Smith

Vincent J. Smith passed away on Monday July 23, 2018, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 82.

Born New Year's Day 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, he moved to Buckingham in 1983 and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Doylestown. Vincent served proudly in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1956, and went on to work 40 years. In 1996 he retired from Bell Labs as a Systems Engineer.

From the time the sun came up until called in for a meal, he could be found outside working on the beautiful home he and his wife built, engineering an ingenious project, or exhausting his tractor.

Vincent was affectionately known as “Smitty” by friends and family, “Pop Pop” to his adoring grandchildren and “Sweet Vinnie” to his opponents.

Son of the late Vincent and Lillian(Reardon) Smith, he is survived by his wife of sixty two years Patricia(O’Gorman), six sons; Marc and his wife Lori and their children Ariana, Tara, Marissa and Annaliese, Don and his wife Mary and their children Stacy and Valerie, Luke and his children Hannah and Amelia, Matthew and his children Cora and Chloe, Peter and his wife Kim and their children, Sam, Emma and Owen, Jonah and his wife Beth and their children, Jonah and Julianna. In addition to his wife and children Smitty is survived by many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 31st at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. Visitation with the family from 10:00 am until the time of the mass at the church.

Burial will be private in St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont.
