Obituary for Dae C. Bade

Dae Clements Bade, 95, ‘Queen of Mill Road’

Dae Bade, of Grist Mill Farm, Buckingham, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, June 6, 2018. She was 95.

She was the devoted wife of Otto R. Bade for nearly 71 years.

She is survived by Otto, and her niece, Victoria Chmela, of St. James, NY. Dae’s friends and family will always remember her as a multi-talented lady who was an enthusiastic gardener, painter and collector. Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., she started her career as a model and hat designer. After she met Otto, she moved with him to Garden City, N.Y. Otto says that she was an outstanding cook and decorator, and threw great parties.

The couple moved to Buckingham in 1981, where they bought Valley Farm, circa 1732 and 1750. Renovating it became their passion. They renamed it Grist Mill Manor Farm. Neighbors enjoyed seeing Dae in her exquisite flowered hats while gardening from morning until night. Her many other interests included cooking, collecting antique boxes, miniatures and doll houses, which she furnished with the finest tiny pieces available. For many years, Dae owned and operated, with Otto, antique shops on Long Island, N.Y., New Hope, Holicong and finally, Buckingham.

At one time, Dae and Otto enjoyed traveling to London, Paris and the Caribbean.
In later years, they preferred to stay on the farm, where they raised sheep, goats, geese and chickens, which provided eggs for the neighborhood.

Dae was one of a kind who will never be forgotten by her friends and neighbors. They will always remember her tooling down Mill Road in her 1990 wood-paneled Buick station wagon, which she gave to a good friend. It’s still on the road. She will be sorely missed by Otto, and everyone who knew her.

Arrangements were private under the direction of the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home/Central Bucks Crematory, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
