Obituary for Dr. Charles E. "Chuck" Dyke

Professor Charles E. Dyke (Chuck) died at home in Plumstead, PA on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. He was 79.

He was born in Boston, MA in 1938. He received his MA degree from Brandeis U. and his PhD in Philosophy from Brown University in 1965. He taught Philosophy at Temple University for 50 years, 1965-2015. Some of his research areas: Philosophy of the Social Sciences, Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Biology, Complex Dynamical Systems. His publications include: The Evolutionary Dynamics of Complex Systems, How Nature Speaks, and Life in a Horse Opera.

A highpoint in his life was his appointment to teach for two years at Temple’s campus in Rome, Italy. For the rest of his life, he enjoyed solving crossword puzzles in Italian.

In retirement, he turned to sculpture, showing his prize-winning work at Tinicum Arts Festival, Phillips Mill, etc. (go to http://www.simplicityinwood.com/). He was also a dedicated gardener.

Chuck married Linda Ferguson in 1962, and they have two sons, Carl (Rachel) and Alex (Patti). He also leaves three grandchildren: Eric, Lucas, and Shannon.
