Obituary for Robert J. Ouimet
Robert J. Ouimet of Doylestown, PA passed away at home on Saturday, July 8, 2017. He was 85.
Born July 3, 1932 in Floral Park, NY, he was the son of the late Rene and Bessie Ouimet and beloved husband of Beverly.
A graduate of Great Neck High School, he entered the Navy in 1950, where he served on a high security barge at the US Naval Air Station, Patuxent River on Solomons Island, MD. Upon discharge in 1955, Bob joined the New York Telephone Company, and eventually became a member of Local Union #3 IBEW Telephone Division. He worked in Manhattan installing systems and trading turrets for brokerage houses and financial institutions. Robert met his wife, Beverly (Warnock) in the city.
Robert and Beverly enjoyed 40 wonderful years together. They found peace in solitary places, among them, Cape Cod before the Memorial Day rush and Thanksgiving at Assateague Island to witness the Snow Goose migration. But most of all, they found refuge and renewal in the wild beauty of Maine. They vacationed there every year since meeting in 1976 and eventually bought a home on a cove in Lamoine. In September 1991, Bob and Beverly were married on the shore of property they owned on Taunton Bay, Hancock, Maine. Days were spent hiking up the mountains in Acadia National Park, walking the Carriage Roads, kayaking and finding joy in the natural world that surrounded them.
He was interested in Bucks County history and enjoyed leisurely drives along scenic back roads. Together Bob and Bev walked miles on the towpath, often watching Bald Eagles soar overhead.
Robert is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Waybourn of Floral Park, NY; nieces, Kathleen Waybourn and Sheree Valeo; nephews, Michael and John David, Stephen, Thomas and Rene Ouimet. He was also blessed to have had many caring friends and neighbors. Bob was especially blessed for the love and friendship given him by Jonathan and Heather Armour. They were always there for support.
He was predeceased by a brother, Rene, Jr., a sister, Rita David, a niece, Anne Waybourn and a nephew, James Ouimet.
Bob’s gentle spirit left his tired body while Beverly held him. Her heart broke and she will love him forever.
In accordance with his wishes, no service will be held.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Maine Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, 14 Maine Street, Suite 401, Brunswick, ME 04011 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
