Obituary for Anet "Sis" Thiroway

Anet “Sis” Thiroway of Mount Carmel, PA passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Neshaminy Manor, Doylestown, PA. She was 84.

Born in Atlas, PA to the late Dominic “Connie” and Helen (Bianchi) Ficca, Anet was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel, PA, before moving to Doylestown, PA in 2016.

Anet was a graduate of Marywood Seminary High School and received a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Education from Marywood University of Scranton, PA. She was formerly employed as a Home Economics Teacher with the Mount Carmel Area School District for 35 years, prior to retirement.

Anet was a member of Divine Redeemer Church of Mount Carmel and served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Paulinarian Club, Ladies Auxiliary, and Knights of Columbus through the church. She established the Summer Food Program for low income children through Mount Carmel High School and assisted with the program into her retirement; was a coach for girls basketball for Holy Spirit School; President of the Mount Carmel Football and Wrestling Booster Programs; enjoyed crocheting and cooking; and assisted children with special needs throughout her life.

Anet was a huge University of Notre Dame sports fan, she and her husband attended ND football games for many decades. She loved spending time at Knoebels Grove, vacationing at Siesta Key, FL and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and spending time with family.

She was the beloved wife of 65 years to Joseph A. Thiroway; devoted mother of Judy (Thiroway) D’Angelo, Joseph T. (Laura) Thiroway; and the late Janet M. (Thiroway) Greco; dear sister of the late Agatha Hullihan, Bernice Smith, and Robert Ficca; loving grandmother of Katie (Justin) Lauver, Meghan (Tim) Danowski, Rick Greco, Mike (Samantha) Greco, Elizabeth, Sarah and Joe Thiroway; cherished great-grandmother Jack and Nora Lauver, and Joseph Danowski.

A viewing will be held at the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, 27 North Vine Street, Mount Carmel, PA 17851 on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 1:00-2:45 pm.

A funeral mass will follow at Divine Redeemer Church, 438 W. Avenue, Mount Carmel, PA 17851 on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 3:00 pm.

Interment will be held in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Elysburg, PA.
