Helen Gertrude (Sikorski) Joka passed away peacefully at home with family on February 20, 2017. She was born on her family farm in Wycombe to the late Stanley & Margaret Sikorski and sister of the late Wanda, Stella and Edward Sikorski. She was 95.
After graduation from Buckingham High School in 1940, she continued her education at Pierce Business College and became a medical secretary to a Germantown surgeon.
Helen’s many talents included playing the violin and piano. She also became a porcelain artist and long time member of the Doylestown Art League.
Helen’s love of home and family brought her the most joy. She was married for 53 years to her dear husband, the late Isadore “Sharkey” Joka. As a loving mom, she is survived by her children, Carol “Bunny” Lumadue and Robert (Deborah) Joka; as a spoiling grandmother to Janyne Lumadue, Jennifer (Jeremy) Michaels, Diana (Anthony) Cappiello and Christina Joka; and as a blessed great grandmother to Elijah and Ayden Michaels and Lorenzo Cappiello.
Being proud of her Polish heritage and a first generation American, Helen was bilingual, loved to polka and prepared traditional Polish dishes. Family and friends feel blessed to have had her in their lives for so many years.
A memorial service will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Saturday, February 25th at 11:00 am. The family will receive their friends from 10:30-11:00 am prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Doylestown Hospital Hospice, Development Office, 595 W. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
