Obituary for John L. Stover III

John L. Stover III
John L. “Smokey” Stover, III, of Doylestown, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. He was 67.

Born in Abington, PA he was the son of the late John L. Stover, Jr. and is survived by his mother Evelyn Stover. He was a brother to the late Craig Stover and is survived by his brother, Dr. Mark Stover (Linda) and sister, Susan Stover. He is the father of John L. Stover IV (Jackie), Brian Stover (Tiffany), Kelsey Stover and a step-son, Adam Scott. He was the proud Pop Pop to Mason, Piper, Owen and Abby Stover.

John grew up on a farm in Ivyland, PA and was a graduate of Central Bucks West, Class of 1967. He was a decorated Sergeant in the US Army during the Vietnam War. John returned home in 1971 and attended Temple University, where he played baseball. Baseball was his greatest passion. He coached multiple championship teams at Warrington Little League, Doylestown Connie Mack, American Legion and C.B. West High School. He enjoyed all sports in general: golfing, fishing, crabbing, hunting and skiing with his long-time friends created some of his most cherished memories. He worked as a Civil Engineer at Carroll Engineering Corp. in Warrington, PA.

John will always be remembered for his dedication to the things he loved, his strong will power, patience and keeping it simple. Not to mention his short cuts that took forever and his sarcastic fiction.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Tuesday, January 31st from 11:45 am – 12:45 pm.

A committal service with military honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Gift of Life, David Nelson Jr. Memorial Fund, 401 North 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123 or www.donors1.org would be appreciated.
