Obituary for Irene Nemeth

Irene Nemeth of Doylestown, PA passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, PA. She was 95.

Born in Roslyn, NY on March 4, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph Nemeth and Mary (Hancsis), she resided in Jersey City, NJ with her sister Elizabeth Nemeth until moving to Doylestown in 1988. As part of “The Greatest Generation”, she served in World War II from Aug 15, 1943 to April 1, 1946 in the Army Nurse Corps as a general duty nurse. Two years were served at the 92nd Station Hospital in Iceland. After the war, she worked as night nurse supervisor at Christ Hospital in Jersey City and later in the maternity ward. Upon retiring, she and her sister moved to the Doylestown area to be closer to their brother, Joseph J. Nemeth, and his daughter and her family.

Irene excelled in gardening and wood working and loved animals. She was especially interested in organic gardening since her sister suffered from many allergies. Both her sister and brother predeceased her and lived to be 93.

Irene is survived by her niece, Evelyn Ryan, and her husband, James, of Coopersburg, PA; she was the loving grandaunt of Michael Ryan and his wife, Aimee Hoben; Jacqueline Moyer and her husband, Andrew; and Daniel Ryan. She was the cherished great-grandaunt of Luna, Audrey, River, Beckett, Vivienne, Camille, and Paulette.

A service will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Friday, December 30th at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service.
