Obituary for Jean A. Carter

Jean A. Carter, 76, formerly a longtime Doylestown resident, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016 due to complications from Alzheimer’s at Bryn Mawr Terrace, Bryn Mawr, PA .

She was born February 9, 1940 in Bronx NYC, a daughter of the late John and Helen (Burdt) Jeffrey. Jean grew up in Westwood, N.J. She majored in education and theater at Western Maryland College and upon graduation briefly taught elementary school in Bethesda, MD. before starting a family.

After brief residences in Washington, D.C. and Annapolis, MD. her family located to Bucks County, initially Warminster and then Doylestown.

She worked as a bridal consultant, fashion show coordinator, and buyer for Anne Bailey's Bridal Shop in Fountainville, PA.

A lifelong devotee of theater she was a member of Town and Country Players and appeared in numerous productions. She was instrumental in forming a children's theater ensemble that performed in elementary schools throughout Bucks County. Jean was a devoted American Red Cross volunteer and received a Distinguished Service Citation as Co-Chair of a fundraising drive that established a new branch office in Warminster, Pa. While residing in the nation’s capital she was a docent with the Corcoran Gallery of Art.

Jean is survived by her husband, Dick, her daughter Heather Beyer and husband Chris, her son Richard and wife Maoko, her sister Bonnie Chase and husband Mark, and three grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, and Carter Beyer.

A service will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Saturday, November 26th at 6:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 pm prior to the service.

Private cremation will follow.
