I met flora gray many years ago when i called for help through the saint vincent depaul society. I was a widow and mother of four children. I will never forget her kind words and quick response to help me with oil to heat our home, You see I was a widow and I was working as a waitress with not enough money to meet the demands of so many bills and expenses. In her understanding way she treated me with respect and dignity also interested in my journey of survival. I remember every October she would call me with my christmas wish for my children and of myself. I can still hear my twin daughter call up the steps, "Mom..... Flora Gray is on the phone." Looking up to heaven I thanked our Lord before I picked up the phone for I knew that Flora was calling for my childrens christmas list. I knew that we would be given a christmas meal that would be fit for a king. When we would pick up the food and gifts in the little building, i would see Flora look up and walk over and smile, How is everything going today, she would say with concern look, Busy with helping control the flow of needy people coming and going, she had a warm touch to my arm and a special minute to personally make sure i recieved the right pile. I thank God for knowing Flora and the memories and sincere gratitude will always be engraved in our hearts. The akers family
