Obituary for Michael D. Olinger

Michael D. Olinger of New Hope, PA passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 6, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was 69.

Born in Kittanning, PA to the late Robert and Sara Olinger, Michael resided in Waynesboro, PA and Chicago, IL, before moving to New Hope, PA in 1998.

He was formerly employed as a Master Baker with Van den Berg Foods of Chicago, IL and a real estate agent with Keller Williams Real Estate of Doylestown, PA. Michael was a former member of the White House Staff at Camp David, from 1971 to 1974. He was a US Naval Veteran having served during the Vietnam War; a member of Acacia Lodge #155 A.F. & A.M. of Thurmont, MD; LuLu Temple Shriner’s International of Plymouth Meeting, PA; Michael was an avid cook and dog lover. He also enjoyed golfing, collecting coins, and collecting banana stickers from all over the world.

He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Susan (Akins) Olinger, devoted father of Kristine D. King and husband Charles D.; Robert T. Olinger and wife Jeanmarie; dear brother of LouAnn Homa and late husband Anthony; loving grandfather to Charles, Michael and Damian King, Catherine, Brendon and Sarah Olinger; and cherished uncle of Anthony and Matthew Homa. Michael was cherished especially for his sense of humor and devotion to his family.

A memorial service will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Thursday, August 11th at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm prior to service.

Cremation services were private.
