DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA - Edgar O. Dixon of Doylestown, PA passed away in Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at the age of 90 after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Rising City, Nebraska, Mr. Dixon resided in New Hope, PA for over 15 years before moving to Doylestown in 2011.
Mr. Dixon received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln. After graduation in 1944 he worked for Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, NY on classified research and development, where he met his former, and surviving wife, Merlynn Hale Cook. In 1954 Mr. Dixon moved to American Optical Corporation in Southbridge, MA, where he held management positions in optical research and development, and mathematical studies. In 1965 he became General Manager of American Optical Corporation's Medical Electronics Instrumentation Division in Bedford, MA. In 1970 Mr. Dixon was recruited to Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceutical Corp. in Nutley, NJ, to run its Medical Electronics Instrumentation Division. In 1975 Mr. Dixon purchased Air Control, Inc. in Norristown, PA, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1992.
Edgar was active with the Walking Group of the BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Warrington, PA; member of the Seniors Center of Doylestown; a member of the Delaware Valley Music Club; and a world traveler. Edgar enjoyed playing the cello, piano, banjo, mandolin, brass horn, and clarinet and also composed his own music. He was an avid sailor and outdoorsman, enjoying 30 years working on his beautiful farm in upstate NY, just up until recently.
Edgar was the wonderful father of Cynthia Dixon and husband Rick Baker, Phyllis Dixon and partner Diana Rubin, Kenneth Dixon and wife Tina, brother of Deloras Smith, loving grandfather of Sarah, Sean, Jessica, Samantha, Rebecca, Madeline and Lily.
Private services were under the direction of the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
His family is thankful for the support shown by his friends and community, and is grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Doylestown Hospital, whose care was compassionate and generous.
A memorial service will be held for Edgar O. Dixon at the BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2040 Street Road, Warrington, PA 18976 www.buxmontuu.org on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11:00 am. The service will be immediately followed by a luncheon.
