Obituary for James A. Taylor PhD

FURLONG, PENNSYLVANIA - James A. Taylor, Ph.D. of Furlong, PA passed away in Jefferson University Hospitals, Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. He was 74 years old.

Born in Woonsocket, RI to the late James A. Taylor, Sr. and Florence Heffernan Taylor, Jim resided in Furlong, PA since 2007 and previously lived in Gales Ferry, CT and San Diego, CA for many years.

He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Irene "Bunny" Taylor (nee Legendre), devoted father of Lori Ann Taylor of Pottstown, PA, Timothy P. Taylor and wife Antoinette of Lambertville, NJ, Kristen Costello and husband John of New Hope, PA, dear brother of Eleanor Vallee and husband Raymond, and Robert J. Taylor, loving grandfather of Brynne and Ty Faherty, Cameron and Patrick Costello, and Rylan Taylor.

Jim worked in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries for over 40 years where he held a number of senior level positions within Research & Development. He graduated from Providence College with a B.S. in Chemistry (1960) and from Purdue University with both a M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1963/1966). Most recently he was a biochemical regulatory consultant as a partner of Merchant-Taylor International of Santa Fe, NM and President of Taylor Associates of Furlong, PA. He also served on the Board of Directors for BioClinica in Newtown, PA for 16 years.

He enjoyed reading, travelling, golfing, stamp collecting, playing computer games, doing puzzles, and researching his genealogy. He was also a wine enthusiast and a die-hard sports fan, especially when it came to the Boston Red Sox. More than anything he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services were private under the direction of the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Jim's memory to the Doylestown Hospital, Development Office, 595 West State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 or www.dh.org would be appreciated.
