DOYLESTOWN & SOUTH PHILADELPHIA, PA - Philomena DiGiorgio of Doylestown, PA passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at her son' s residence in Doylestown, PA. She was 96 years old.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on December 10, 1916 to the late Sebastian and Serafina Marano, Philomena was a longtime resident of Southwest Philadelphia and Unico Village for 15 years, before moving to Doylestown with her son.
During World War II, she worked at Kellett Aircraft, Southwest, Philadelphia as a welder. She was " Rosie the Riveter" during World War II and won an award for devising a more efficient mechanism for welding together parts of the bomb sights for bombers. Philomena was also proud to be a poll worker during elections. She was a former member of St. Edmund s Parish and a member of the church group. Philomena enjoyed cooking, teaching her grandchildren to make pasta by hand, and proud of her sewing ability. She was a former member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy John B. Acchione Lodge #311- of South Philadelphia.
She is the beloved wife of the late Alfred DiGiorgio, devoted mother of John DiGiorgio and wife Linda of Phila., Bill DiGiorgio and wife Mary Lou Amos of Doylestown, dear sister of the late Rosario and Mario Marano, loving sister-in-law of Ann Marano and the late Jenny Marano, cherished grandmother of Marguerite, Charles and Carl DiGiorgio.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11 am. The family will receive their friends from 10-11 am prior to the mass at the church.
Interment will follow in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
