Obituary for Mary Louise Lawrence

DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA - Mary Louise Lawrence of Doylestown, PA passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 at her residence. She was 86 years old.

Mary Louise (Gloman) Lawrence was born March 11, 1927, the youngest of four girls born to Laverne Phillips and John B.H. Gloman of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Weezie to her family and friends, she attended Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA and graduated with a BA in Biology, Class of 49. She married her sweetheart, G. Fred Lawrence of Ashley, Pa. and they moved to Cincinnati, OH where Fred undertook studies in engineering and Weezie worked to support them in a biology laboratory on the development of a polio vaccine. Two much-adored children came along in 1953 (Karen) and 1955 (Freddy), and the family moved to Jamison, PA. Weezie devoted herself to family life, handling the books for her husband s engineering design company, and serving as deacon for many years at Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church. As an adult, she attended Hannah Harrison College in Washington DC, earning her License in Practical Nursing. She worked at Neshaminy Manor as an LPN until she retired to help care for her dear sisters. An accomplished quilter, she was invited to contribute the small animals panel for the commemorative quilt celebrating the founding of Delaware Valley Agricultural College. Moving in retirement to Heritage Towers in Doylestown (now Wesley Enhanced Living), she delighted in joining Singing Seniors , tai-chi classes, making cinnamon buns at the Senior Center, and attending continuing learning in retirement classes at Del Val College in poetry, Dickens, and chemical biology. Most of all she enjoyed the companionship of her sister, Carolyn, and wonderful friends, especially Flossie, Helen, Arline, Eileen, and Mary Anne who have cherished and cared for her.

Mary Louise is survived by her daughter, Karen, her big sister, Carolyn Gloman, and by a granddaughter Megan Louise (and husband Anthony Hollingworth) and great granddaughter, Emma Louise, as well as her nieces and nephews and her devoted extended family, Vince, Kim and the kids. Her son and former husband predeceased her. A gentle, humble, strong and compassionate woman, she is beloved by everyone who knew her and will be terribly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Wesley Enhanced Living, 200 Veterans Lane, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Saturday, January 18th at 11 am. Interment services were private.
