Obituary for Ruth V. Jefferson

UPPER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA - Ruth V. Jefferson, a lifelong resident of the New Hope area, passed away on Tuesday, June 4th in her home. She was 92.

Ruth was the daughter of Leroy and Eva Van Hart and the wife of Carl Jefferson, Sr. ("Bud"), who died in 1988. She was born and died on the same country road in Upper Makefield Township where she and Bud raised their family. The matriarch and worrier-in-chief of the Jefferson family, Ruth is survived by her sons, Carl Jr., Don, and Rick, daughters-in-law Connie, Emily, and Sue, nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Ruth loved to be busy, and was most at home in the garden and in the kitchen. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of the weather and could tell you with great certainty the date of the last frost and the right time to plant and harvest just about anything. Her desserts were legendary, and while she insisted that each batch "didn't come out just right" those lucky enough to try her famous peach dessert, blueberry buckle, or gingerbread men would beg to differ. Guests rarely left empty handed, as she was sure to send you home with a fresh picked quart of strawberries from the garden or a piece of homemade chocolate cake.
For many years Ruth worked at George School in Newtown, PA, as a secretary in the Admissions and College Guidance offices. She was a lifelong member of Thompson Memorial Church and was very active there until her later years.

Funeral services will be held at the Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1680 Aquatong Road, New Hope, PA 18938 on Saturday, June 8th at 11 a.m., where friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired at 400 Freedom Drive, Newtown PA 18940 or www.bucksblind.org.
