Obituary for Evelyn L. Furness

DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA - Evelyn L. Furness (nee Schaffer) of Doylestown, PA passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 in Chandler Hall, Newtown, PA, surrounded by her loving and devoted family and caregivers. She was 89 years old.

Born in Penns Park, PA to the late Charles and Sadie Dyer Schaffer, Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Doylestown, PA before moving to Newtown, PA in 2008.

Evelyn graduated from Richboro High School and was employed at a bank in Newtown and in the post office in Wrightstown. She enjoyed cooking, baking, home canning, and caring for her grandchildren. She especially took pleasure in spending time with her loved ones. Evelyn was gentle and kind, always caring for and thinking of others. She shared many happy memories of trips to the Poconos, the shore, and holidays at home with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

She was the beloved wife of the late Warren E. Furness and devoted mother of four daughters. She is survived by her children; Blanche Speiser and husband Mark, Joyce DeLucia and husband Bob, Debbie Furness and companion Jeff Walsh, Sandy Furness and companion George Skroumbelos, grandchildren; Brad and Jaime Speiser, Max and Adam DeLucia, and Chris Reuter, and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Friday, December 27th at 11 am. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 am prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Upper Tinicum Cemetery, Upper Black Eddy, PA.

Memorial gifts may be made in Evelyn' s memory to Chandler Hall, 99 Barclay Street, Newtown, PA 18940.
