DANBORO, PA & BELMONT, NC - Opal M. Ament of Belmont, NC passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC. She was 87.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter, in 1970. Born in Belmont, NC to Roy and Fama (Welch) Hamilton, Opal is survived by two sisters and was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by her son Dennis and his wife Janet Ament of Boylston, MA and by her daughter Linda Lassiter and son-in-law Thomas (deceased) of Statesville, NC. Opal has four grandchildren, Jessica Ricker and fiancé Aaron Walters of Westboro, MA, Zachary Ament and wife Maura of East Lyme, CT, Jarrett Ament and friend Kimberly Walch of Westboro, MA and J. Donald Lassiter and wife Meredith of Concord NC. She also has six great-grandchildren, Aidan, Ella, Abigail, Bradley, Owen and Lincoln.

Opal worked for many years in food service in the Doylestown area before moving back to North Carolina after retiring.

Family and friends are invited to greet the family and celebrate Opal s life with a memorial service at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 12:00-2:00 pm with a service to begin at 1:30 pm.

A private burial will follow the memorial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one' s choice.
