Obituary for Ralph DiMeo

DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA - Ralph DiMeo of Doylestown, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014. He was 91.

Born at home in Belleville, NJ, in 1923, Ralph was also a resident of Matawan, NJ; Lodi, NJ; Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; and Dania Beach, FL, before moving to Doylestown, PA, in 2012.

Ralph was a proud World War II US Naval Veteran, serving as a hard-hat diver and machinist on the USS Seekonk AOG in the Pacific Theater. Ralph also served in the Merchant Marines for 2 years before returning home and establishing the Triangle Service Station in Wallington, NJ. He married Carmella DeGondea in 1953, and switched occupations shortly afterward, going to work for Akers Motor Lines of Secaucus, NJ, for more than 20 years and joining the Teamsters Union.

In their retirement, Ralph and Carmella organized many naval reunions for the AOG Tankers sailors, which were held at various locations around the US. He and Carmella also enjoyed travelling, and visited many countries abroad.

He is the beloved husband of 61 years to Carmella DeGondea DiMeo, devoted father of Ralph DiMeo, Jr. and wife Debra Wittlin DiMeo, and The Rev. Donna DiMeo Hammell and husband Craig Hammell; dear brother of the late Josephine Ferraro, Ann Snyder, Rose Ferrara and Dolores Dusky; and loving grandfather of Ian Leith and wife Amanda, Alexander DiMeo and wife Cecilia, Sandra Leith, Zachary DiMeo, Laura DiMeo, and five bonus grandchildren: Craig Jr, Robert, Gary, Jack, and Angela Hammell. He was also a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Ralph loved and was loved by many people. Rather than grieving his passing, we his family members know that Ralph would prefer to be remembered with joy at gatherings of his loved ones. Therefore, all are invited to a time of visitation on Monday, June 16th, 2014, from 1-3 PM, at Doylestown United Methodist Church, 320 E. Swamp Road, Doylestown, PA 18901. Our time together will close with a Prayer Service at 2:45 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ralph' s name to Doylestown United Methodist Church.
