DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA - Ruth passed away at the Doylestown Hospital on May 30, 2014. She was 73.
Ruth was born on June 22, 1940 in Philadelphia to John and Virginia (Brusius) Menendez.
She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah and Son-in-law Darren, Karen and Son-in-law Joseph Schulz, and a Sister, Juanita Michaels of NJ. She had 3 grandchildren, Lauren (Schulz) Perry, Finola, and Gary John. Ruth also had 15 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Brian, and three sisters, Eleanor Sara, Rose Marie Dexter and Virginia Adams.
Ruth was a resident of Fairless Hills, PA for 20 years. She was raised and lived most of her young adult life in the city. When she moved to the suburbs she never tired of the surrounding beauty of trees and nature.
She spent her last year at Golden Living of Doylestown. No doubt, she will be remembered at Golden Living for her spunk. Admiring Ruth s feistiness, Me Me, an aid at Golden Living, gestured to her one day, raising her hands in the air Raise the Roof Ruth! and Ruth smiled. From that day forward she warmly welcomed it as her catch phrase as was greeted by visitors, residents, aids and nurses with the same words and gesture. This recognition from others would immediately cause Ruth to smile proudly.
Ruth had a life long fascination with the ancient Egyptian culture. Egyptian artwork adorned a wall in her apartment. Ruth s most prized possession was a treasure gifted to her by her niece which was brought back from Egypt. One of Ruth s fondest trips was some years back when she toured the King Tut Exhibit at the Franklin Institute.
She admired talented people for their creativity and imagination that were reflected in the art they made. Ruth was always on the lookout to acquire a new piece of art as she shopped boutiques and art festivals.
Although she enjoyed all genres of music, old and new, her favorites were Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison and Celtic Thunder. From time to time she would recall seeing Neil Diamond in concert and how appreciative she was that her niece treated her to such an event.
Summer was Ruth s favorite season. Undoubtedly because of the periodic trips she made to Atlantic City with her friends. She always remarked how wonderful her friends where and how lucky she was to have them. She enjoyed equally the smell of the ocean breeze and the delightful taste of funnel cakes while strolling down the boardwalk on a sunny day.
Christmas was by far her most favorite holiday. For her, the magic of the season never grew old.
As a lover of children she routinely donated what she could to her favorite charity, Feed the Children.
Ruth was a special lady and lived both a simple and loving life. In her words, I like me.
Her mantra was, " My rules, my life. "
We will all miss her.
Raise the roof Ruth.
