Obituary for David N. Hardy

SELLERSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA - David N. Hardy of Sellersville, PA passed away after a long illness at his residence on Monday, November 9, 2015. He was 86.

Born in Doylestown, PA, to Frank Newton Hardy and Clara Walton Hardy, David resided in the Doylestown area before moving to Sellersville, PA in 1957.

David was a young machinist who founded D. N. Hardy Co., Sellersville in 1957, then incorporated the company as Hardy Machine, Inc., Hatfield in 1985, when his son William joined him, retiring in 1994.

David was an avid hunter and competitive shooter. At a young age, he began building and repairing guns. He took his love of wood working into wood carving and wood turning. David took classes from some of the country's best wood carvers and wood turners on his way to becoming a locally and nationally recognized artisan in his own right.

He was a founding member of the American Association of Woodturners, as well as a founding member of the local chapter, of Bucks County Woodturners, and a founding member of the Wilhelm Schimmel Wood Carving Club. Additionally, as a way of giving back, he took great pleasure in teaching others, young and old, by holding regular wood carving and turning classes.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Florence Laura Hunsberger Hardy, sons John David and wife Dawn Wilson, William Newton and wife Trish, 3 grandchildren: Kirsten Elizabeth, Ryan William, and Jordan Marie, brother Edward Hardy and wife Margaret, and sister in law Doris Hardy. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Frank Newton, daughter Kathryn Ann, brother Donald Hardy, and sister and husband Elizabeth Hardy Dando and Walter Dando.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA on Saturday, November 14th from 10 am to 12 Noon.

Cremation services were private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960 or www.gvh.org (designate Hospice) would be appreciated.
