Obituary for Carolyn Sherwood Gloman

DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA - Carolyn Sherwood Gloman of Doylestown, PA passed away at her residence on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. She was 94.

Born January 26, 1921 to Laverne Sherwood Phillips and John Benjamin Harrison Gloman of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Carolyn was the second of the four " Gloman Girls." Following her mother and older sister, Carolyn graduated from Mount Holyoke College (Class of ' 41) with a BA in Religion. She built a successful career at Prudential Insurance s medical claims division -- later becoming an enthusiastic proponent of " universal healthcare." From her home in Cedar Grove, NJ, she was active in her church, enjoyed season tickets at the Met and travels abroad with friends to England, Scotland, Norway, and Germany.

Carolyn was devoted to her sisters and their families, retiring and moving to Doylestown where she cared for Laverne, Sarah and Mary Louise, in turn. To her four nieces and four nephews -- and their children -- Carolyn was a lifelong cheerleader and mentor, supporting them in their passions and sharing with them her own for music, bird watching, literature, church and travel. She was a prolific correspondent, maintaining active contact with family and friends made over a lifetime. Active for many years in Doylestown Presbyterian Church and the AAUW, Carolyn relished poetry classes at Del Val College and concerts by the Bucks Co. Choral Society, the farmers market, walks at Lake Galena, and the many wonderful friends she made at Wesley Enhanced Living, especially her close companions Flossie, Helen and Eileen. She was attended in her final year by devoted caregivers Rose Severe and Barbara Hawthorne, and by the professional staff at WEL Personal Care. Carolyn is survived by nieces and nephews Nancy Kilpatrick, Linda Wiegand, John Blewitt, Gail Sherwood Mazzei, David Morris, Karen Sherwood Lawrence, and their families. She was predeceased by nephews, G. Frederick Lawrence, Jr. and Douglas Morris.

A memorial service will be held at Wesley Enhanced Living, 200 Veterans Lane, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Saturday, December 12th at 11 am.
