Obituary for Henry R. Fischer

FURLONG, PENNSYLVANIA - Henry R. "Juny" Fischer of Furlong, PA passed away at his residence on Tuesday, December 15, 2015. He was 85.

Born in Abington, PA to the late Henry and Jean (Bertsch) Fischer, Henry resided Doylestown, PA and Manahawkin, NJ, before moving to Furlong in 1976.

Henry was formerly employed with his family s business Fischer Transfer' s of Doylestown, PA; Vernon Horn of Doylestown, PA; and Joe Bauer Excavation of Pipersville, PA. He worked as a welder, mechanic and truck driver throughout his career and was a talented sign and billboard painter. Henry enjoyed painting with watercolors, had a passion for working on antique farm and tractor engines, and also enjoyed his cats and animal rights. Henry was a US Coast Guard Veteran having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served on the USCGC Rockaway (a Coast Guard Cutter), which escorted the USCGC Eagle during the Korean War.

He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Joan (Schuyler) Fischer; devoted father of Jeanne Deveney and husband Scott, Julie Congdon and husband Bill; dear brother of Robert Fischer and wife Lutzi, and his sister the late Jean Diane Sissy Sherman; loving brother-in-law of Wendy (Schuyler) and Larry Ring; cherished grandfather of Bridgette Deveney; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; his best friend of 55 years Kenny Roberts and his cats Blackie and Fuzzy.

Private cremation arrangements were under the direction of the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home/Central Bucks Crematory, Inc., 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.

Services with military honors will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA at a later date.
