BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA - Gerald W. Harbaugh, Sr. of Buckingham Twp., PA passed away peacefully after fighting the good fight against cancer, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in Doylestown Hospital. He lived an active 80 years as a faithful husband, devoted father and grandfather, and a Christian friend to many.
Gerald was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Irving and Alline (Creighton) Harbaugh. Before moving to Bucks County 13 years ago, Gerald and his family lived in Hanover, Maryland; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Annapolis, Maryland; Austin, Texas; and Miami, Florida.
Gerald was a Naval Air Reservist and received an Associate Degree in Business from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He retired as a Customer Service Manager after 30 years, in 1989, with Eastern Airlines. He enjoyed working for Sears Home Improvement after his retirement. In addition, he volunteered through AARP to assist senior citizen with income tax services.
Gerald was an active member of St. Philip’s Church of New Hope, PA through the Vestry and as Treasurer, and the Dawn Patrol (a bible study group that met every Thursday morning in Doylestown). His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included making stained glass, carpentry, fishing especially in the Florida Keys, gardening, reading and being Mr Fix-It. During his life, he traveled around the world and the United States with his family and friends.
He was the beloved and faithful husband for 57 years to Janet Gail Harbaugh; devoted father of Gerald W. Harbaugh, Jr. and wife Dianne of Plantation Key, FL, Linda Harbaugh Wortell and husband Frank of Buckingham; cherished grandfather of Michael and Heidi Wortell; dear brother of the late Irving D. Harbaugh, Jr., loving brother-in-law of Aubrey C. Lang, Jr. and wife Josephine, Ronald T. Lang and wife Diana, and John Bruce Lang; he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Philip’s Church, 10 Chapel Road, New Hope, PA 18938 on Tuesday, March 1st at 11:00 a.m.
Cremation services were private under the direction of the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home/Central Bucks Crematory, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
