Obituary for Chie S. Lowney

DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA - Chie S. Lowney of Doylestown, PA passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016 in Pine Run Health Center, Doylestown, PA. She was 84.

Born in Karafuto, Japan Chie immigrated to the United States in 1955. She was a resident of Philadelphia before moving to Doylestown, PA in 1996.

It was comforting to know that the woman who cared for people all her life received the care and attention she so richly deserved. George never wavered in his love and care spending many hours by her side holding her hand. She had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend with flowers and a parade of family coming to visit. She left knowing and feeling loved. She rose to many challenges in her life, losing her mother at an early age and accepting the heavy mantel of caregiver to her siblings and father who had lost his leg in an unfortunate accident. During the WWII she become a Russian Prisoner of war and was sent to work in a war camp. After the war she along with all the Japanese people were displaced from Sakhalin, the island she called home, never to return. She later married a U.S. soldier and came to America with two children in tow. They went on to have 6 more children before their separation & divorce. Abandoned with no financial or emotional support from family she went on to teach herself to read and write all while raising eight children. She worked many long hard hours doing all types of jobs to put food on the table and clothes on her children. She never lost her drive or spirit even though she lost the sight in one eye, deaf in one ear and severe hearing loss in the other. She would find love and marriage in her later years to George Lowney. He became her knight in shining armor showering her with love and attention. They traveled extensively and had many adventures together until memory loss, and the depression of family deaths began to take their toll. She was gracious to the end so thankful in the care that she received by the nursing and support staff at Pine Run. Rest in peace Chie you did a wonderful job. It was a hard but beautiful life.
She was the beloved wife of 15 years to George W. Lowney; devoted mother of Lindy Dauber and husband Joe, William Langjahr and wife Susan, Lester Langjahr and wife Agnes; Betsy Torres, Shirley Calvert and husband Philip, and the late Chie E. Riley, Earnest and Robert Langjahr; dear sister of Setsuko Shibata; also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Cremation services were private under the direction of the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home/Central Bucks Crematory, Inc., 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
