About Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home of Doylestown
Jason M. Oszczakiewicz (Os-cha-kev-itch), Director
Jason's interest in funeral service began when he was in high school. At that time he took a part time job helping in a local funeral home. This experience made him decide to pursue a career in funeral service and he enrolled in Mercer County Community College of West Windsor, NJ to obtain both his Mortuary Science Degree and an Associate Degree in Business. Upon graduating Jason became a licensed Practitioner of Mortuary Science in the State of NJ. The following year he was licensed to practice Funeral Directing in the State of Pennsylvania and later garnered his license in the State of NY. The attainment of these multiple licenses allows Jason to assist families more easily when a death occurs out of state in New Jersey and New York as he is personally able to file permits for transfer across state borders and direct funerals across state lines for burial, cremation or entombment.
Several years later, Jason went on to attend Thomas Edison State College in NJ to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Specializing in Management. He has also obtained his Life Insurance Producer Licenses in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This allows Jason the opportunity to assist families in making funeral pre-arrangements which are funded by a funeral insurance policy.
Over the last 20 years Jason has worked in both family and corporately owned funeral homes. He began as an Apprentice and went on to Director, Manager of a single firm, and General Manager of multiple firms before he and his wife Michele purchased Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home in January 2011 from Mary Thomas. These previous work opportunities have offered him a vast number of varied experiences which Jason has been able to use to tailor his own style of funeral service and remain modern and progressive when assisting the families he serves.
Jason serves the families and community of Doylestown as a member of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, Doylestown Rotary Club, LeTip Group of Doylestown, Doylestown Business & Community Alliance, Heritage Conservancy, Knights of Columbus Council No. 4160 of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and is a member of St. Martin of Tours Church of New Hope, PA. He has also supported local youth sports leagues with sponsorships for the past several years including teams for his three sons.
Jason and Michele will carry on the tradition of serving the families of Doylestown Borough, Doylestown Township, and surrounding communities which began in 1879 with care, respect and professionalism.
Established in 1879 in Mozart, PA, the original funeral home was founded by Mr. James Conard. A cabinet maker by trade, Mr. Conard manufactured the caskets for the families he served right at the funeral home.
In 1898, he was joined by Mr. Albert S. Worthington who eventually purchased the firm making it the A. S. Worthington Funeral Home. The business was later relocated to Wycombe, when the facility was built in 1905.
In 1933, Mr. William C. Varcoe joined the firm as an employee. He purchased the business when Mr. Worthington died in 1942, changing the name to the William C. Varcoe Funeral Home. In 1962, William's son Wilson G. Varcoe established a secondary facility in the Borough of Doylestown, where the business is presently located at 344 North Main Street. In 2001, Francis and Mary Monahan Thomas purchased the business and facility, continuing the tradition of the family owned funeral home as the fifth generation of funeral directors to serve the Doylestown and Central Bucks County community. Sadly, in 2008, Francis suddenly passed away, leaving his wife, Mary, to continue to operate the business. In 2011, Jason and Michele Oszczakiewicz acquired the funeral home. Jason continues the tradition of meeting each family himself, which ensures each family’s wishes are handled professionally and personally. We do not use trade people or other individuals such as in other funeral homes. This eliminates the possibility for mistakes to occur.Over the past 130 years of dedicated service one principle remains consistent, our commitment to the families that we serve.
